André Nendza As a result of continuous work, a multitude of his own projects as well as being a sought after sideman, the bass player and composer André Nendza is one of the most outstanding musicians of the German music scene. Nendza graduated from attended the Academy of Arts, Hilversum (NL) and the jazz department of the Academy of Music Cologne (diploma in 1997). The bassist has played live and recorded with Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Rick Margitza, Paolo Fresu, Dominique Pifarély, Charlie Mariano, Adrian Mears, Dave Pike, Rob van den Broeck, Marc Bassey, Eivind Aarset, Tom van der Geld, DJ Illvibe, Ramesh Shotham, Jasper Blom, Zoltan Lantos, and Michal Cohen. Nendza has recorded over 60 albums (14 as a leader/co-leader) and appeared in various radio and TV recordings. In 2000 he founded his own label “Crecyle Music” to release his albums in collaboration with “Jazzsick records”. He was featured several times in all relevant German Jazz- Magazines. André Nendza has toured Germany, Europe and the U.S.A. playing at festivals like the Leverkusener Jazztage, Jazzfest Berlin, Jazzfestival Viersen, Jazzrally Düsseldorf, Jazz in Eberswalde, Ingolstädter Jazztage, Jazzfestival Saarbrücken, Jazztage Greiz, Jazzfrühling Kempten, Hildener Jazztage, Festival „Sax-No end“ im Stadtgarten Köln, Jazzfestival Stuttgart, „Vive le Jazz“, „Winterjazz Köln“, Enjoy Jazz, Moers Festival, Ankara Jazzfestival (TK) Festival Besançon (F) and the Jazzfestival The Hague (NL). In 1997 Nendza was awarded the Kulturförderpreis der Sparkassenstiftung NRW. In 2009 his duet with Angelika Niescier qualified for the final of the “Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis”. In 2012 André Nendza was awarded the ECHO JAZZ for the category “Instrumentalist/in des Jahres  national Bass/Bassgitarre” for his album "rooms restored". Nendza has been writing regular articles for “Blogthing”, the online blog of the magazine Jazzthing since 2007. André Nendza is a versatile teacher: he has been running the „Vorstudium Jazz“ of Cologne´s „Offene Jazz Haus Schule“ and is head of the „Musiklabor“ (including an exchange programme with the music high school Katowice in Poland). Nendza is also a guest lecturer at the music academies in Frankfurt, Dresden, Bloomington (USA) and Arnheim (NL) and taught at the Summer Jazz School in Edinburgh. In addition he is a permanent member of the lecturers´ team of the “jazzemble” course.
